GM has confirmed the Holden brand will cease in Australia from 2021. This is a Sad day for the once mighty Australian car industry.

We played above our weight in this country, but very sad to see those glory days are gone.

Now this is confirmed WTF is the Supercars category going to morph into - if it ever was?

I reckon it would look really bad for GM's official import partner to race someone else's car. WAU should stick with the ZB for now until they can bring the Camaro into the sport preferably as the factory team.

Triple 8 and some of the other big teams should be looking at other manufacturers, but not WAU.

WAU is a race team. Walkinshaw Performance is the importer.

WAU is actually three teams:

  • Walkinshaw Racing in Australia

  • Andretti Autosport in America

  • United Autosports in Europe

They work together, but they are separate teams and operations according to their own website. The Australian one obviously has very close ties to Walkinshaw Performance and should be racing one of their cars. They've been talking about doing that for years and the time has come to stop talking and start doing.

If I were GM and wanting to bail on T8, surely it would be cheaper to just cancel the contract at the end of this year and not pay them for '21. Court costs would be less than what they agreed to pay T8. Not saying it's the right thing to do but when have GM ever shown they're capable of that...

I wouldn't be mad if WAU went to Mustangs. Would be good to have Chaz back in a Ford. But at the same time I'd rather see them race something else. It'll be good if we can get a few manufacturers enter in the next few years.

I saw the interview with Ryan W and he said they had already talked to several manufacturers and got 2 definite No's but was still in talks with others but couldn't go further until Supercars announce the gen 3 regs! He said that it needs to happen soon because WAUs partners will not race a brand next year that no longer exists.

Maybe a switch to Mustang?

We don't need anymore Mustangs, we need a couple of brands to replace the dead Holden runners!
If Supercars had not ****ed over Volvo, AMG and Nissan in favor of the dead manufacturer, they wouldn't have the problem they have now! Karma can be a bitch, hey?

What will you cry about when Holden are gone if the series continues?

Few facts here:
Supercars never did anything to AMG. It was a customer program of which AMG pocketed a nice fistful of Betty's money, and reluctantly.
Erebus actually performed better once they took their engine program away from ze Germans.
They were allowed to use the flat plane crank and fly by wire - at their request, never before seen in Supercars. Before moving back to what we had been using here for years.

Volvo were massively successful and Australian dealers wanted IN!
If the Swedes weren't so forward thinking (ala electric cars/emissions) they would probably still be around, with Scotty behind the wheel!
He said himself he was staying at GRM until the Volvo deal fell over.

Nissan... well I can agree with you there.

You paint a far worse picture than what has actually happened.

The best it will be would be “you can use the ZB next year if you want”.

Nothing good came of it otherwise they would be signing like a canary.

Have to keep a lid on it, the fans won't commit to buying merchandise if the team doesn't exist next year.

Well why would they have an interest when they are pulling out off Australia completely?
