Different engines can be discussed. But I'm saying what potential is there for a meaningful discussion when a guy is clearly not fair dinkum about the subject?

It's not the early 90s anymore. Back then, there were a wider range of options and 2lt 4cyl were distinctly smaller cars. Nowadays, they're not small. They're actually a big, standard size now.

So where can a conversation go when a guy refers to TCR as "buzz boxes"? You can write 2,000 post articulating why 2lt is merited as the premier class, and it'll just go in one ear and out the other. Then say "Buzz box"

Calling a TCR "buzz box" is like calling a F3 car a buzz box. It's stupid.

The current V6 hybrid turbo Formula 1 cars are somewhere in the middle.

Certainly not as spine-tingling as the V12s or V10s, but they could be worse. I'm used to how they sound now, I guess.

4-cylinder turbos in the ATCC would be much the same. With a largish muffler on them, the Sierras can sound quite smooth and pleasant. However some of the TCRs are a bit too raspy and farty sounding to be pleasant to listen too.

Motorsport in Aus hasn't followed because we have a demented commercial organisation catering to the vested interests of a clique, and fake fans who have no idea of what actual motor racing is supposed to be. It shows with supercars being a series for fake cars.

Keep buying high mark up merchandise you can't wear anywhere other than a race track. Impoverished African nations wouldn't wear them.


I certainly agree with you, but for an extreme comparison:
There's certainly a difference (generally, a tingling feeling between the legs) between a proper V8/10/12 F1 going through Eu Rouge compared to the tyre screech/wind breaking Formula E.

It is indeed outrageous to rule out 2 litre cars, especially since they already raced in the ATCC producing upwards of 550hp and they can easily do so again.


"No V8 necessary"

A modern 2 litre turbo can certainly produce the same 645hp as the current 5 litre engines -- of course that's too much power for a FWD so they would need to be RWD (more along the lines of Mustang Ecoboost than Focus ST), but that's not a big problem.

All the coupes that might be targeted by Gen 3 regulations offer a four-cylinder engine option, just like the iconic Sierra, DR30 and 240T coupes of days gone by.

I donít think they will do what is best for DJRTP.

They will do what is best for the small struggling teams who are going to find it extremely difficult to stay on the grid during what clearly will be difficult times.

That might mean keeping the current car to cut costs, or it might mean adopting a totally different spec cars as part of a deal to bring new manufacturers (and sponsorship dollars) into the sport.

Everything should be on the table right now - all we can do is wait.

I wonder if 2022 ia too soon for Gen3 changes. 2023 might be better.

Certainly, the compressed 2020 series, if any, would not allow teams to produce new reg cars for 2021 as Ryan Walkinshaw advocates.

The losses that ALL car companies will be making due to current closures will make them less likely to agree to funding a new car.

As far as I can find, Ford is not committed to anything replacing the current Mustang iteration and want to get more use out of current cars. DJR/TP certainly do.

If current Super1 cars are made redundant, there are no ready purchasers. Current Super2 teams are struggling to fill seats in their current cars. Customers would probably go to another series if costs get too high.

1) And yet I was sitting the the Grand Stand at EC for rd1 of TCR last year. Have you even been to a TCR round?
2) I wear my merchandise T-shirts everywhere. I wear it to work on Firdays, to the shops, I even wore it to a NASCAR race in the USA.

Journeyman, I only eat weetbix for breakfast, not any of that other crappy stuff. Does that mean Iím not a real breakfast eater? Who are you to tell people how much of a fan they are, and who really cares? Maybe a Ďrealí fan would be supportive of other motorsport fanatics and recognise it takes all sorts to make this crazy motorsports world go round. Based on the fact Penske racing boss Tim Cindric is actively looking at Ford's future involvement in Supercars now that Holden has gone!

And yes, Tim is a very influential player in what Ford do racing wise!
