Steve still needs to sharpen up after a few years out of actual race driving, and I need to learn more about helping from out of the drivers seat rather than in it as well. So far we seem to be gelling well and learning quickly together :)

Doesn't sound like a professionally run series at all.... How about the weights? Did they check them? The comment Pither made was that he felt if they gave him one more flying lap in the fg in any session it would have been even quicker. It was the first real time that parity was no longer tagged as just whinging holdens and people started realising there was a real difference that was hurting the sport for anyone that was at least a semi professional driver.

How do I know. I was there.

Big col. You are a flogger. Supercar has Beens or never beens. Most drivers are pretty close if you run them in the same car same conditions. Exactly my point. There were plenty of fast fords that could not put the whole race together. 1 fast lap shows how good a car is. A fast race shows how good the driver and car are. I am no statastitian but natsoft shows plenty of fords with one fast lap in them. break those down into sectors and it glares out even more. Put the three fastest sectors of a race together and you see how good a car or driver is or what the best you can expect from your car if you can nail a lap and then nail one after the other. There is a lot more than just the finishing positions to work out parity.

Go right back through all the natsoft results and see how it all stacks up. Get all the sector times from those races and see how it looks then.

Holdens have only been top of the table 4 times this year in races. Fords filled the rest. Of course I am going to argue from a Holden point of view :)

I need to be careful to avoid a fine for bringing the sport into disrepute but it was pretty much what happened to Layton. Think about it. Your a young kid trying to make it. You get called into a hearing just after a major incedent. You dont know how the other guy is, have you killed someone or not. Imagine the stuff going through your mind if it was you at 20 years old. You have one hour to appeal any charge (24hrs under certain circumstances which basically means you are incpacitated and cant answer the charge) in the interest of keeping costs down, which I think we all should be looking for Justice. You are basically made an offer and told what it could be if you dont accept the offer. Chris took the monetary offer which was a lot less than he was told it could be. Remember he had no money so he crapped bricks when he heard what it could be and took the fine. It was after that that they pulled the footage from the car. Chris had always claimed he saw one flag and it was too late to do anything except try and swing the car away from Pauls door, which probably saved him. After looking at the footage it showed no other flags only the one just before the crash site. When the footage was taken back up, there was nothing that could be done as he had accepted the fine. I am not sure it was even viewed. Crompos remark he was alseep at the wheel because he saw the flag really hurt his career and his fan base. Chris said he saw the flag but it was too late. People took crompo's remarks to be there were plenty of flags hence why so many threats and abuse directed at chris by race fans. Had Chris been asleep at the wheel he probably would have ploughed right into pauls door instead of the rear door and qtr. Chris's steering wheel showed he held onto it until impact bending it severely. Generally you would lighten your grip or let go just before impact to save your arm from breakage. (I broke both Saphoid bones in my wrist just hitting a kangaroo)

Laytons one at bathurst was similar for the spring infringement that cost him his second championship. Basically he had said that he had the same spring and never changed them. It was sugessted that if they were the same springs he could have been stripped of the previous title. He signed the fine and then they started calling trying to find out how it had happened, with rick, his dad driving to melbourne that night with the springs to the guy that built the car (remember this was the first homologation car). Both of them drove to the spring maker to ask why they were different. We thought we had 24 hrs to appeal, which we soon learnt it was over, done and dusted once you sign. Basically they were the Homoligated spring for the falcon what Layton had. The spring maker decided to change them slightly after homoligation. Same spring rate, worked the same, just looked slightly different. We had stat decs stating this. We took it back to cams, appealed to amsac and then started normal legal proceedings. Our barrister advised us we would win as we technically had the only set of homologated springs out of all the falcons. We spent a lot of money on legals and it was only once we parted ways I stopped the case going any further. I am still confident we would have won it and so was our legal team.

The above is the reason Chris cannot sign any fine until I am present with him or a representative of the team is there and spoken to me. I dont need the hassle of legals if we can sort it out there and then. I still believe it is against the law to put someone under duress especially young kids who are already under pressure. It is a pr**k of an act whether it is sport or normal life.
Even grants rollcage at homebush. I called my barrister he he said tell him to leave it in.

We want to win no doubt about that, but we want to win fair and square not on someone being rubbed out on a technicality. Rules are rules and should be enforeced. We do not adhere to any gentlemens agreement rules as there is no penalty if someone breaks them. We saw that twice at homebush costing chris 3rd in the championship by one point last year. If the cars that broke the no pass between turn 1 and 4 had got there penalties then Chris would have got 3rd. Sunday was a drive thru that didnt get handed out or added to the time.

Happy to show you the footage atr sandown verge

DP

There is plenty of back markers who's drives are paid for by sponsors and recieve virtually no TV time unless there is an accident.
I dont know if its a sign of the times (knowing things are only recovering in the economy), whether its a sign that sponsors dont see any value in the V8utes or whether its a sign that VESA need to do more to give the utes better exposure to help them get more sponsors. For example while the utes were having their 3rd race yesterday we get Matt White dribbling instead of watching them.

Another thing to keep in mind when dealing with the sponsors, I know for a fact some rougue managers have fleeced sponsors in the past, some taking upwards of $200k a year and delivering nothing. Considering a race team can be run for no more than $15k+gst a round, thats only a net cost to the sponsor of $120k.

I've heard that the boys club in utes is quite strong, I thought it was more in terms of technical knowlege rather than sponsor dollars.

Looks like the second most popular are starting to suffer as the rest of the classes in the country have, V8SC costs continue to rise (As the weekend just proved) and sponsors keep needing to feed more and more into that series, and more are walking away from it due to the spiralling costs. Shortened races and second class treatment is pretty common when other series make the commitment and pay the fees to get on a V8 bill, hence why many only do it once.

And $15k sounds cheap, is that if you bring your own car and franchise($200k)? and then theres damage, staff flights, accomodation. Darwin and Townsville transport costs could almost take that on thier own if you need to pay the truck driver and diesel. Some teams may be just trying to take the money back in a hurry, some may have full time staff etc. I've heard numbers of twice that for prep and running only (Bring your own car and franchise), that may not be charged direct to the sponsor though.

The 15k is an averaged figure over all the rounds and includes transport, prep and a race team. It doesnt include the ute and francise.

The $15k is what a few teams are paying when they hand over the ute for management.

Damage is usually covered by the driver and is additional.

You can pick up a ford francise at the moment for around $60k to $70 since they are going to the FG build next year (so another 70k there), and I see a couple of the holdens on the v8utes website for sale at $150k including francise. One of the ice break utes is for sale at that price and they are top 6 utes.

The four biggest managers are hi tech motorsport, big gunn racing, williams race tech and seiders racing.

Bringing your own ute and francise I had heard on the grape vine that Seiders racing charges around $20k a round for a helmet bag driver plus damage, Hi Tech a bit more than that and the Williams around $15k. All is plus GST. Big Gun is pretty cagey about theirs. It is only grape vine stuff, so I would be interested is anyone could chuck in some more iron clad figures of what teams charge for prep.

Most drivers are happy to pay for damage from their own pockets if they have to.

Give it another 3 to 5 years and the prep and race day management in my humble opinion will be down to about 5 or 6 teams to cut down the costs of duplication and transport.

Plenty of times carage is caused because of desperate moves caused by shortening of races.

Just let them run already. Its not like channel 7 care, they were still showing bathurst 'live' at 5:20pm, a good half an hour after the race result.
