Beechey Continues Perfect 2012 Scorecard
Adam Beechey has continued his perfect record of round victories in 2012, winning the fourth round of the Commodore Cup national series at Wakefield Park on the weekend in his Donut King / Achilles Tyres VS Commodore.

Beechey qualified on pole position by 1.3 seconds and then claimed a commanding victory in Race 1, which he won by some 26 seconds.

The going became a little tougher in the reverse-grid second race, in which Beechey received a drive-through penalty for jumping the start. Adam came within a tenth of a second of breaking the lap record as he chased down the field after serving his penalty, and he was aided in his pursuit of the other competitors by a mid-race safety car.

Beechey managed to overtake every car in the field and again crossed the line in first place, only for an additional five second time penalty to be imposed on his race time post-race, dropping him to second.

"I only just missed out on winning the race, because I almost won it by enough to make up for the penalty," Beechey said.

The third and final race was again a comfortable affair for Beechey, who won by over half a minute after his main rival, Chris Stevenson, was penalised post-race for a driving infringement.

Beechey is now well within reach of securing his third consecutive Commodore Cup title at Sandown next month.

"It was another good round for the Donut King / Achilles Tyres Commodore," Beechey said. "Our pace all weekend was really good, and while the penalties in Race 2 were frustrating, it also gave us an opportunity to demonstrate the speed of the car.

"The fact that we got so close to the lap record shows just how strong the car is and as always, it was fautlessly reliable thanks to Kenton Ferguson's meticulous preparation."

Your point is probably a reasonable one, though my F3 Management role is completely separate from my business that does the media, PR bits and pieces, commentary et al as there are are more people involved in doing the work than just I. But, again, it's a reasonable point to make - though I tend to try and avoid pointing people towards any one series instead try and make them all as visible as possible - if the resources and budget allow - to get people into both.

I think the people that target Com Cup are probably going to have different ambitions to their careers than F3 so it's probably a bit of 'natural selection', for lack of a better term.

Commodore Cup, I think, remains a viable place for people to race. I said it before I did any work for the category and I'll continue to do so. It's brilliant entertainment and great racing and I think it has a place. I've tried to stay away from any of the management or behind-the-scenes stuff this year and just been working on getting some media wins and it's been reasonably positive.

People like great racing. The category has it. They just need to get some of the political stuff out of the way and coax some of those who aren't running out of the sheds to play. And the more cars that play, the cheaper it becomes for everyone, so it makes sense!

EDIT -just thought I'd chime in with regards to the first post that started this thread. It is my understanding the sponsorship on the ute at Clipsal this year was actually a deal between the Mallala Shannons round promoter (Clem Smith & Mallala Motorsport) and the Ute team and was promoting the specific round - and wasn't funded or organized by the Shannons Nats themselves. So don't be too critical on them about that because I don't think they were involved. It was the track itself promoting their forthcoming Shannons round.

So what we actually saw was a promoter actually promoting an Event at his circuit... Have you actually costed a VE? you can pick them up for under $10k now, sell what you don't need and should only be a couple to 3 grand base vehicle.
They are now 5 years old with another 2 years of production at least, performance parts off the shelf and you can do a lot without needing to engineer special bits to fit things, the cage is not required to make it more rigid as they are very strong from the factory, more roll over protection and they are great looking race car, very sellable to sponsors.
