Whereabouts are you?
FYI, 87.5-88.5 MHz (or thereabouts) in the NZ radio spectrum is in an area of bandwidth commonly allocated for public use, and people commonly use FM transmission equipment for things like those wireless devices that let you play your Ipod through your home/car stereo and sometimes LPFM amateur radio stations which have a transmission power output not exceeding 500mW in that range. 107-108MHz also falls into this category. Chances are more likely that you've picked up a neighbour's remote TV speakers than a sports channel.

Hi All
What time was it Britek_Angel2006? If it was late I was just wondering if whatever station it was was using it as a 'filler' while waiting for their connection to the american station (I know some NZ stations switch to american channels after a certain time)? |

It'd be interesting to find out what station actually was broadcasting then. I'm wondering if it was RadioSport, as they tend to put on Fox broadcasts late at night. Your mission, Angel should you choose to accept it, is to listen carefully for a station name on that frequency. They're required to broadcast station identification periodically. (I did a feasability study about starting up an LPFM station in 2004, thats how I know all that stuff about radio regs and frequencies.)

Hi Britek_Angel2006
Im in Nelson to.
It is a broadcast from our local mainland TV channel. They would of been playing all of there TV shows through there radio frequency which is about 88fm while they were waiting to hook up with there sister radio broadcast which is VOA.
Mainland TV normally show replays of all the V8 Supercar Rounds and other aussie car races on a car program which I think is called speedweek and comes directly from Australia.
Cheers ba.falcon

I reckon... we get VOA in Auckland on one of our UHF TV stations, but they don't play stuff as cool as that :)

I'm just glad you didn't call us Jafas ;) Doesnt go too well with us natives of Waitakere, nor them funny lot from the mythical Manawatu area. (hides from Tracy)
Seriously, I think what I'd hoped for here was a radio service that covered live commentary of the V8SC during the events, or if it WAS an obscure LPFM channel, it would be based in Henderson where an appreciative audience could also be found :) Neither ABC nor Radiosport do it, except for the odd update when one's trying to listen to cricket and NOT know what happenned, so's he can enjoy the delayed coverage afterwards when TVNZ thinks that midnight is a decent hour for motorsport coverage.
