Hey all you NZers, Hows about we try and campaign to TVNZ to get more coverage of the V8 Supercar series. I would like to have a bit of the qualifying and saturdays race on saturday. Whether TVNZ does it or whether it is like a bigbond set up or maybe Sky. I think we deserve more coverage.
I have to stay away from all media on race weekends just so I don't hear results. It is becoming more and more often now that I hear a result before TVNZ have shown it. In fact last year I jumped on the TVNZ - powerbuilt motorsport website to check what time the coverage was going to be that night (sunday) and they have the results up. That pissed me off so much.

Anyone else want more coverage?

Yes I would like more live TV coverage. Maybe the earlier race times this year will help that anyway.
Some qualifying and top 10 coverage would also be great. Maybe some internet coverage could be made available in NZ, although I doubt if they'd put the actual races on the net because they need us to watch the TV ads to pay for the coverage.
Perhaps once the new digital channels are up and running there might be a motorsports dedicated channel. Although reception might be affected by the flying pigs!

I dont know what it is about the NZ V8 series, i've never been a big fan and i'm not sure why, the cars look the same, produce racing just as good if not better, but still seems to lack something. I just can't put my finger on it though.

As for the coverage I think some advertisement is needed, i havnt know when any of the rounds were meant to be on tv, i just stumble across them on Tv1 or Sky Sports

They don't have the star drivers we have come to love and hate in the Aussie series, thatís about all the difference is really.

It wouldn't matter how much coverage we get, it is never enough.

I must say though our coverage has actually been in a decline since a few years ago when we actually got to watch the Supercars before the Aussies even did.. hard to beat that now.

These days nothing like that happens.

Is it that hard to get on the net.

Yes TV coverage is ever poor for both NZV8 & V8SC. Would love to see qualifying and top 10 coverage (cant see this happening). Im sure they miss a lot of action through cut outs/adds too.

No its not that hard to get in on the web. Infact you get it on the web first. But if I only wanted to see the results and not watch it I could read Mondays paper.

I realise the the NZ V8 will never be live and I could care less really. But the Aussie V8's should be.

Hi All

This is off the tvnz website:

POWERBUILT TOOLS MOTORSPORT
Sunday 21st January 2007
TV ONE
3pm to 6pm

"Geoff Bryan returns to present the first all-new-look PowerBuilt Tools Motorsport for 2007. Once again the team will be here every Sunday afternoon, the odd Sunday night and quite a few Saturday afternoons as well right across the year with the very best in Motorsport delivered to your home and best of all it's Free to Air from ONE Sport."

Perhaps this might indicate a higher level of supercar coverage this year??

Or they might think the 2 or 3 Saturdays they broadcast at the moment is considered "quite a few"

Well with the new format for AVESCO they're changing to the F1 style type qualifying i think its 20min sessions? They're are going to be televised in Australia for obvious reasons.

But I would love to see Qualifying shown to us Kiwi viewers! I've only watched it through Bigpond and its awesome to see the guys at 10 tenths! I feel that we should have a dedicated V8 Channel considering the amount of Kiwis in the V8 Supercar series with Drivers, Team Owners and they amount of support we have for this awesome series.

I want to see TOP10 shootouts for all tracks, Race Track details where Neil Crompton goes through the various corners of the track and highlight the good/bad areas, where you're more likely to see a passing opportunity take place when ya watching etc. and maybe a Press conferences! If anyone has seen the Lexmark Indy300 press conference in 2004? It has to be put up in the Hall of Fame for what went on! That tension between Murphy and Ambrose was just awesome! and not all of us Diehard fans see that intense competitive nature off track. We only see it on the track.

And Biggy G (Nice signature by the way ), for your comments, i think the NZ V8's lack everthing, extra 250hp, better gearboxes, better engines, better technology, better wheels, better brakes better everything! but that all comes down to the budgets that we spend over here, compared to our Australian counterparts and definitely better drivers apart from David Besnard (ex. V8 Supercar WPS driver) & Luke Youlden (Co-driver to Russell Ingall)

And if we do have a dedicated V8 Channel! PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LET that Geoff Bryan present it!!!!! Sick and tired of him!! Maybe Shane Drake, i like him! but no more Geoff!

I agree with most of what you say, but a dedicated V8 Channel wouldnt work I don't think, maybe a motorsport channel? On sky tv it would work I think because they have the F1, Nascar, MotoGP, WRC, The LeMans series and The Dirt speedway programme all broadcast on there, and all the NZ motorsport is shown on there too.

And I dont see why we cant get some qualifying and top 10 coverage, even highlights, its not like before 3pm on a Sunday theres anything good on.

(Thanks for the coments on my sig btw

But not all of us are SKY subscribers And TOP10 is a must! The only time we're able to see a TOP10 shootout to the full extent is if the race weekend is Bathurst1000 of Pukekohe. How much would it be for TVNZ to have Australian channel Seven to be broadcast over here??

I think your going to have to be if you ever want a Motorsport Channel, unless they bring in something when NZ goes completely digital in the next couple of years.

Problem with the NZ V8s is the parity...though havent they recently addressed it?

I would love to see more V8 Supercar racing on TV! Saturday Arvo would be great because normally I would wait until Sunday arvo to find out who won race 1, and then Monday morning (at about 12.30am) who won race 3!

Would like to see the shootouts and qualifying as well, as well as the podiums afterwards!

Yeah its unfortunate that we get a delayed coverage of races. We should be able to get Race 1 which normally is televised on a Saturday in Australia shown to us on a Saturday as well.
