http://www.crash.net/a1gp/news/148899/1/surfers_to_host_first_event.html
The 2009-2010 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport season will begin with the Nitro SuperGP in Australia, it has been announced.
The event, which will take place on the streets of Surfers Paradise and which will run alongside the Australian V8 Supercars Championship Series, will be held from October 22-25.
The news follows confirmation that the 'Season Five' calendar has been approved by the FIA at this week's World Motor Sport Council Meeting in Paris. Ten dates have been submitted thus far, although A1GP chairman, Tony Teixeira added that the schedule may yet include one or two more.
No further details were released, although it is already known that Assen will join the fold for 'Season Five', replacing Zandvoort and provisionally pencilled in for May 14-16.
"We are in a totally different position to most series as we straddle two calendar years. This makes announcing a calendar with all its dates and venues more challenging," Teixeira explained.
"However, we are well advanced with all our Season Five contracts, and for those we have yet to make public have plans to announce them with events in the specific countries.
"Our plans for Season Five include some very exciting new venues that I can assure the teams and the fans will be very popular. While at the moment we have submitted a ten race calendar, I am hopeful of adding one or two more dates in the coming months."
Meanwhile Nitro SuperGP general manager Greg Hooton said he is looking forward to hosting the A1GP on the streets of Surfers Paradise in the autumn.
"It is fantastic to be the first event of the 2009/2010 A1GP season, and everyone here is looking forward to hosting the World Cup of Motorsport on the Gold Coast," he added.
"The A1GP will join the Australian V8 Supercars Championship Series as the co-headline act at the world's premiere motorsport festival, the Nitro SuperGP, which is enjoying its 19 consecutive year in 2009."
Good news for Indy (I'm never going to call it the Super GP lol). Kinda negated but by this article.... http://www.crash.net/a1gp/news/149145/1/series_in_doubt_after_liquidation.html

mmmmm, to be honest, DTM is great, but I rekon they'd be a little bit of a let down in person. A1GP will be good because the drivers are pretty much C-grade international drivers, so....around surfers it will be complete and utter chaos, which is cool because I have no interest in the series, so the more crashes the better...
but rabbits quote is right on, id go to surfers/clipsal to watch the HQ's and be happy!!!!!!

The DTMs may have shown up the V8s?
Lapping at about the same speed?
The A1GP cars will well and truly show up the V8s then, lapping about 20 sec a lap faster, especially on a track that is totally unsuited to Touring Cars, they look slow and clumsy around the place, embarrassing really.
And they may actually be able to pass each other.
And another thing, some of these C-grade International drivers will still be a couple of grades above most Aussie V8 Supercar drivers. |

mmmmmmm, dunno about that dude. Ur a fool to underestimate our guys, and a fool to over-estimate international drivers. Early on it was great, with guys like Verstappen and co. But its fallen off a fair bit.
I distinctly remember Will Davison getting consistent podiums back when the best drivers were in A1, and Marshall (who a lot of you think is terrible) got a podium in a one off drive, but Johnny Martin hasn't done anything remotely impressive.
Don't get me wrong there are still lots of fantastic drivers in A1, but to think that just cos international drivers who may have been in a few GP2 or F3 races are better than V8 guys, you have to rethink. |
