A pleasant day today at Eddington for the 1/4 mile Historic Sprint meeting. Also my first competitive run in a historic car. Ran around the middle of the A7 racing class and have a long list of excuses for why I didn't win, primarily that I suck at getting a low compression 750cc car off the line in any form of useful fashion.
Plenty of interesting cars from the early 1900s through to mid 70's. Some great noises as some of the mufflers appeared to have fallen off.
Having my second run in a couple of weeks at Myrniong, out near Bacchus Marsh. I'm not going to bother trying for a time, just concentrate on getting off the line and cleaning into 2nd.

A7 as in Austin 7, I am driving a friends 1928-1930ish Monoposto. The only Japanese part fitted is the supercharger which is I think from a Subaru and is easily the newest part on the car.

This car is still under development so we are having to resolve a few issues to get the best out of it. Also the reason why the bodywork is incomplete (helps with the weight though!). Missed out on 3rd by 0.2sec which wasn't bad given the slow driver, slipping clutch and preliminary settings on the SU carb (told you I had plenty of excuses).

Can't complain, from the point of view of an old bike racer; it has 4 after all! Heaps more traction than I am used to having :) |

Looking at the car photo and being serious for 10 seconds can I suggest you either lose some height or get the roll over hoop behind the driver made taller.
I'd hate for your helmet/head to become the rollover protection in a crash.
Many in historic racing don't like changing their cars but if done properly making it safer can be done and not change the cars look by too much. I enjoy watching the old cars racing but don't enjoy the serious injuries that result from the old cars level of safety. |

Understand your intent and appreciate the concern. The loop at the back of the seat wasn't designed for roll over protection, a dedicated structure will be fitted after the Myrniong event before the bodywork is fitted. For various reasons the car is being run this way for the moment and a high degree of caution is being used. So for Myrniong that means no attempt at times, just working on the launch and carburettion.

| As a person who has to get involved in the messy end of crashes I'm glad to see you're upgrading the car. |

Hope to never meet you in those circumstances.
If you are at at Myrniong come and say hello and I'll fill in some background details for you. |

Car won't be, it isn't ready for circuit racing and was built more specifically for sprints and hillclimb use. I might be just for a look. |
