Why do we have two very well supported (sponsors/manufacturers/riders) Superbike series in Australia?

Is there any difference in rules and specs for both series?

the Swann Series is basically what was once the "Formula Xtreme Tri-State" series in the early 2000s. Terry O'Neill runs it.

Terry was awarded the ASBK rights in the mid-2000s but lost them again circa-2010, so he just restarted Formula Xtreme and this year has adopted the Swann Series tag thanks to Swann Insurance getting involved. The series also runs with AASA-sanctioning, rather than 'Motorcycling Australia' sanctioning.

It's quite a complicated mess, this year the famous 'Swann Series' has a pretty good entry while ASBK has suffered and only ran two rounds, but hopefully something can be worked out, Aussie Superbike racing needs to get back to the status it had in the mid-1990s, when winning the Aussie Superbike title could get you straight into MotoGP on a works bike!

the Swann Series does run a 'Balance on Performance', which ASBK doesn't. The actual technical regs for the Superbikes are similiar enough, but closer to 'FIM Superstock' regulations than FIM Superbike regs.

As FbF has said the ASBK Series is in a rebuilding phase so 2015 should be interesting if the rumours are true (fingers crossed).

The FX (Swann) series picked up a lot of racers through the ASBK imploding over the past couple of years.

To bring this back to topic, how much things change in just two years.

I'm watching the "Swann Series" from Queensland Raceway this year on Speedweek now, and it's like things have been completely swapped over from this time two years back.

The ASBK has rebuilt itself and now boasts the factory teams and the big local riders and all the attention, while the Swann Series looks the domain of the privateer with the factory teams like Honda & Yamaha having departed.

It looks like both the Swann Series and ASBK are to be shown on SBS as the Phillip Island World SBK supports were shown last week and there was some live stuff from Wakefield Park today.
