Let's get past all the historic off-topic guff and back to TCR.

, currently the only driver officially signed up for the series.

The Supercars squad has now confirmed that it will also field a pair of Renaults as well, with two chassis headed to Melbourne from Team Vukovic Motorsport in Switzerland.

“We had a look at what vehicles were available and see what would suit us. We purchased two Alfas and we’ve now purchased two Renault Meganes as well,” said team owner Garry Rogers.

“We see this category as the growth phase of motorsport in Australia.

It is now being claimed that Brian Boyd actually purchases the 2 Renaults to be run by GRM.

quote:
RECLUSIVE PATRON Brian Boyd is understood to have upped his investment in the fledgling TCR Australia Series even further by buying two Renault Meganes that will be raced by Garry Rogers Motorsport.

By BRUCE NEWTON

Built by Renault Sport supplier Vukovic Motorsport in Switzerland, the cars are being added to the two Alfa Romeo Giuliettas already in GRM’s stable for TCR, which kicks off at Sydney Motorsport Park in May.

...

But one of the two cars headed here has been recently driven by Australia’s F1 star Daniel Ricciardo in a publicity stunt in the UK.

This whole thing has the smell of Super Touring about it, with the category organisers purchasing so many of the cars

Apparently one of the GRM Alfa's won't be run by GRM now also, according to AA

why would SC want anything to do with it? they are the crowd who did their best to kill off (and achieved it) the 2 litre cars that were here before when they could have worked together easy enough...

egos and politics are never good bedfellows.

Great opportunity for a Tasman Touring Car Series.

And Kelly Racing have two Opel(PSA) cars and two Subaru sedans.

I really hope that the put Molly Taylor in one of the Subies. Molly is one of Austalias most talented drivers in any category.

I would like to see CAMS give ATCC status in 2020.

Supercars squad Kelly Racing has confirmed a four-car entry into the inaugural TCR Australia Series.

The Braeside operation will run a pair of Subaru WRX STI TCR cars, alongside two Opel Astra TCR machines in the new seven round production touring car series, which begins next month at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Drivers are yet to be announced for the four entries while cars are set to arrive in the country in the coming weeks.

The turbo-charged Subarus are built by Italian-based team Top Run Motorsport, which recently tested 2016 Australian Rally Champion Molly Taylor, while the Opel Astras are constructed by German outfit Lubner Motorsport.

Confirmation of Kelly Racing’s entries will see eight manufacturers represented on the grid with Subaru and Opel joining Audi, Volkswagen, Honda, Hyundai, Alfa Romeo and Renault.

Kelly Racing is the second Supercars squad to commit to the fledgling series, following in the footsteps of Garry Rogers Motorsport, which plans to field two Alfa Romeos and two Renaults.

It will run its TCR program alongside its four-car Nissan Altima effort in Supercars.

“It is very exciting to add to the TCR Series cars to our racing program for 2019 and beyond,” said team owner Todd Kelly.

“We’ve been keeping an eye on the developments of the category, both here in Australia and around the world, and with the resources and skill-base we have at Kelly Racing, it was a logical fit for us.

“The Opel Astra is a proven race-winning car in other championships. With the right driver line-up, there’s no reason why they will not be competitive straight away.

Kelly Racing will field a pair of Top Run Motorsport Subaru WRX TCR machines

“It’s going to be great to have the Subarus as well. I feel they are going to suit the Australian conditions and circuits as its one of only two sedan shapes in the field, up against the hot hatches.

“The WRX is a very iconic racing vehicle too. It’s going to be very popular amongst the fans of Australian touring car racing.

“Now that we have secured the cars, we will make our announcements around drivers and partners in the near future.”

TCR Australia promoters Australian Racing Group see Kelly Racing’s involvement as a significant boost for the new touring car class.

The arrival of the cars sees the number of TCR machines ordered rise to 16 cars although only one driver is confirmed to race in the category at this stage.

“It is extremely pleasing to see another professional, high profile racing team like Kelly Racing join the TCR Australia Series for 2019 and beyond,” said Australian Racing Group director Matt Braid.

“Kelly Racing is one of the best resourced teams in Australian motorsport with a strong commercial structure that has delivered results for their partners in motorsport and business for the past 10 years.”

The news comes in a week where TCR confirmed plans to expand into New Zealand for 2020.

TCR Australia is set to kick off at Sydney Motorsport Park from May 17-19 with all seven rounds broadcast live on SBS.

An interesting twist to TCR. Maybe we willee Hayden driving on of the Aussie Hyundai. I would love to see him competing with Molly Taylor in a Kelly Subaru.

And Chris Pither confirmed to drive a Renault for GRM, probably PACE sponsored (a guess).

quote:
New Zealand rally star Hayden Paddon has ordered a Hyundai i30 TCR to help him refine his asphalt driving technique this season.
Paddon, who lost his factory World Rally Championship seat to Sebastien Loeb this year, is working every possible angle to find a way back into the WRC, and taking delivery of one of the Korean manufacturer’s race cars is a sensible option.

The Kiwi’s team is now based out of the Highlands Motorsport Park close to Queenstown, which means he has daily access to the 2.6-mile circuit.

It could also lead to proper race outings, following this week's news that MotorSport NZ will start a local TCR series in 2020

“Having a facility where you can just sign in and get out there and do some laps is fantastic,” Paddon told Autosport.

“Seat time is still so important and driving in a variety of conditions is really useful. The chance came to buy an i30 TCR and bring it down here and we jumped at the chance.

“I’m always looking for ways to help work on my driving, especially on asphalt and this is another way to do that. There’s talk of a possible TCR series in New Zealand for next year, so maybe we’d do some of those races – but everything is still absolutely geared to getting me back to the WRC.

One of the Subarus may or may not be driven by a former ARC champion.

If you're referring Molly Taylor - the above article rules her out.
All her focus will be on this season's ARC.
