Bit of an outsider but Toby Price anyone? He was the first Aussie to win Dakar after all. I wouldn't put him right up near the top but surely he has to rank on the list somewhere.

Clearly a lot more then you! People have won the event numerous times and some even back to back so one win is hardly the thing to boost you from the fringe of the top 20 aussie motorsport stars to one of the greatest all time Aussie drivers!

Time for you to out down that crack pipe.

This shows your below average understanding of the history motorsport, history of Aus motorsport, and where classes fit in the hierarchy of world motorsport.

See for you, car racing is just something you see on tv. You can't make the distinction between F1, IndyCar, Supercars, etc. For you, it's all the same and you can't account for factors of the difficulty one has over the other.

Someone like you would actually think that if he were a bit smaller, SVG could make it in F1. He's a bit heavier than Lewis Hamilton, otherwise, they're the same?

No! Hamilton is an elite racing driver and there's a only a few others that are comparable. In the context of professional racing drivers all over the world, SVG is just another guy. Nothing exceptional.

So now let's have a look at the difficulties Power has had to face in his career, which a plodder like Whincup hasn't? SO as mike has demonstrated, Power is another IndyCar/500 winner in a Penske. However in the context of Aus motorsport, he's definitely in the top group, way above SVG and Whincup.

He's gone overseas and had to prove himself in much more demanding, cut throat junior classes than what Australia provides. MOre people around the world aspire to succeed in F1 or IndyCar, so the demand for places and funding is much greater than what it is for sports sedans-lite, which is what supercars is. It's not easy for Australians to maintain a career overseas, because we're expendable.

Penske doens't muck around with indycars and the indy 500. There's no bunnies racing for his indycar, no compromises with the Indy 500. Whoever drives for Pneske in indycar is of extremely high quality, more than what is obvious to fans with limited knwledge of motorsport (like you for instance).

Accounting for the "uniqueness" of supercars. Because there's somehting about how they're built and the geometry which makes difficult because they're unocnventional you have to be a specialist in them. Will drives harder, faster, more complex car. In the context of racing cars, a supercar is a relative HQ Holden. SO there's another feather in WIll's cap.

With the exception of the best known F1 drivers, Penseke can pick any driver on earth to drive his indycars. It's not like in supercars, where he probably doesn't even know the names of the enduro drivers. A contract to race for Penske at the 500 is of greater merit than winning a supercr champisonhip. You just don't get the glory of a high profile in Austrlia.

By winning on ovals. WIll has done something no Aussie has done, become prficient on ovals! That's not easy to do, espeically when you don't have the beneift of learning in the lower levels. Picking up that skill distinguishing himself from evey driver that's ever come from Australia.

So yes, I do know more about motrsport than you do, and ever will. People with your limited knowledge then express hopelss opinions like referring to Earl Bamber as a rookie, when in actual fact he of a higher pedigree an talent than SVG.

On SVG (who admittedly is outstanding for someone who's vision impaired). In the context of NZ motorsport, he's not even in the current top 4! Paddon, Hartley, Dixon, Bamber are ahead of him!

So as someone who actually likes motorsport , and has a greater understanding and appreciation for it, I urge you to stop following motorsport and take up another sport to follow. You've demonstrated that your interest in motorsport is limited and superficial. For the betterment of motorsport in his country, please stop.

Blah blah blah!

How many motorsport events have you been to see at the track outside of this country?
Do you think before you type?

You turned the entire thing into a supercars attack yet no where did I mention supercars?

Perhaps you need to go back 100 ye as rs and look at all the Aussies that have competed everywhere in the world not just on TV or constantly publicised like Ambrose, look at their achievements then you'll understand why I would not have him in my top 5!

Before attacking a person it would be a smart idea to know a little their background and life!

And yes Bamber was a rookie to the series this year!

You don't need to cry. I'm not the one diminishing Power.

Outside of F1 (not including bikes), Power is the most successful Australian racing driver.

It's common knowledge that touring car racing (or whatever variation) is the lowest level of professional motorsport. So prolific success in it isn't as substantial than being statistically less successful in higher levels of motorsport. Peter Brock gets past this because he transcends the motorsport community and is a general sporting icon in this country.

If you're this sensitive. Please don't look up Lowndes' F3000 results.

edit: edit: Will Power interviewed on Macquarie Sports Radio this afternoon.
