The SuperUtes field is set to receive technical enhancements including a new-specification tyre ahead of the category’s second season in 2019.
The first season of the ECB SuperUtes Series saw the field run on a Yokohama Advan road tyre due to the lack of availability of a 20-inch R-spec tyre.
That is understood to be set to change, however, with a lower-profile tyre tested late last year.
A more motorsport-oriented tyre would not only provide drivers with more grip but also allow the SuperUtes to potentially be lowered due to the reduction in the height of the sidewall.
The V8 Utes which SuperUtes replaced raced on R-spec Yokohamas, and team owner Luke Sieders told Speedcafe.com last year that a similar move for SuperUtes could yield around four seconds per lap.
Such a gain would account for around half the lap time deficit to the V8 Utes at some circuits.
It is believed that there has also been work on mechanical upgrades which could be finalised this month.
Ryal Harris won the 2018 SuperUtes Series in a Peters Motorsport Mazda BT-50 after a year-long battle with Craig Woods in a Sieders-prepared Western Sydney Motorsport Toyota Hilux.
The new season starts at the Superloop Adelaide 500 on February 28-March 3.

Not sold on the R spec tyre , Yep much lower side wall will lower the vehicle , the cost of a 20 inch R spec ??? , also more grip means more stress on stuff , Lap time improvement & closer racing, time will tell , The rumoured , more entries would help , some induction & exhaust Noise would also improve the show.

Is there a reason as to why they can't run an 18 inch wheel Bowyang? That would also help with the ridiculous ride height.

Because an 18 wheel would look ridiculous in a wheelarch that big. Almost as ridiculous as they do already though...

CP, As some have suggested an 18 would not fill the Arch , But it also comes down to "Have a look in ANY Wheel TYRE Shop" The display area is covered with Larger SUV RIMS and TYRES , these Vehicles are the biggest sellers of RIMS, TYRES (Bloody Heavy 38kg ) & accessories.

Man, this series is so nothing, it's not funny.
If it was a horse, it would be sharing space in a CHUM can!

New Commodore Hey! So you used your own money? Would you like to buy a used bridge?
