Yes, RIP Philip.

Had an old work mate who played cricket and he got clobbered in the chin by a ball once as wicket keeper, probably wasn't going as fast but nasty damage. Is it time they review helmit design??

Was he wearing a helmet?

To respond to Bruce in the NRL thread: it is probably the single hardest loss I have had to deal with at Souths to lose Bully. Much worse than Sam Burgess as he didn't symbolise Souths as Bully did. I think a lot will underestimate just how much a loss he will be to Souths but I fully understand how engrossed he is with NZ and I think given that he will make the successful transition that others haven't.

I'm not sure if it needs to be reviewed. Really, what's the chances of this tragedy happening again?

Not to derail this thread, or take from the news of Philip Hughes, but an Israeli umpire was hit by a ball and killed...

Saw a bit of sport on the weekend and soccer, union and golf found ways to pay tribute to Phil. At the soccer they actually stopped the game at the 63rd minute and had appluase.

Would be nice to see V8's maybe do something. Maybe cars revving engines for 63 seconds or something before one of the races. Or stickers on the cars. Anyway, just a thought.

RIP LJ - loved and never forgotten.

"It was dry for the second go-around. Grice, nervous, worrying about his Bathurst jinx, ran 2:25.9. The amazing Brock, using every last centimetre of bitumen, yet keeping the car straight and balanced and at full noise, came back with a staggering 2:20.0 as if to say: "Match that". And people just shook their heads, bit their lips and wondered who would be second".

The Peter Brock trophy is now where it belongs.

This was even more far reaching news than some might think. His passing actually made the morning news here in the Michigan, USA.

Also, massive kudos to the Australian Captain, Michael Clark. Michaels response to what has happened has been exemplary and shows why he is Captain.

I've gotta be honest that I've never really been a fan of Clarke. But how he handled himself during this whole affair has been nothing short of outstanding and I have a new found admiration for him.

What an extremely uplifting day yesterday was.
I fully agree with HiTone's remarks about Michael Clarke - he went to another level.
CA and the ICB have been brilliant throughout this whole tragedy.

Hopefully now Hughesy's team mates can get themselves together and have a great season to honour his memory.

Today, I was supposed to be sitting in the Members at the Gabba, but I'll simply reflect instead.

You shouldn't judge the mark of a man because of this tragedy. I'm not saying he should be discredited further just saying that it is hard to find out who he really is given the enormous amount of emotion and the bizarre circumstances of Hughes' death.
